riptide s t r u c kdead ! by hero
Riptide couldn't help it. She sighed. She had held it in all morning. But now she couldn't stop it. It was long and heavy, weighed down. Longing. And very unlike Riptide. Of course, it wouldn't have come from her. That was the only logical explanation. But no. Riptide had everything she wanted. What more was there left to have?
Her milky green tea eyes watered a little, but she would never cry. She only pursed her thin lips in open distress. Or, as open as she would get. Her fur was as silky as any other day, and was mused in a purposeful way making her look like she had spent her day running through Windclan. It's funny rivets she could not help, and yet had a certain fondness for her imperfection. She stared down at her paws. She had never wanted something in the world so bad.
Deputy. Such a pretty name. It glittered in the sun, in the moonlight, and even in the darkness. It was more than just ordinary; and Riptide would never call herself ordinary. In fact, no one would. She was a breed all her own. A little questionable at times, but for the most part, endearing and dangerous.
She could almost taste it. It was sweet and tangy. It felt like summer, and sounded like a babbling brook running over water. It reeked of respect and great honor. So close, and yet so far away. She just couldn't stand it.
It was worse than the time she had fought with her brother as kits for the biggest mouse. It was worse than losing her parents and then being strong for Eaglefin when all she wanted to do was fall apart. And it hurt more than meeting Ospreypaw, a spirited girl after her heart, and yet a child of their father's by another woman. She could only hope that as time wore on she would come to love her Warrior status as much as she loved Ospreypaw.
Never had she let herself down this hard. Because, above all, Riptide was not power hungry.

His broad shoulders stood out in his frame. He had grown so much since he left the nusery. He had grown some more since he had left the apprentices den. His maturing period had come to a close. You could say this once quiet tom had grown out of the immature small kit phase. He stood tall and proud. His sleek glossy pelt was well cleaned and slicked back. His blue eyes charming and almost unreal.
He was given the name Distantice. As a kit he was so distant from the others. Not one to socialize. Not one to talk, not one to do much of anything. That's just how he was. His blue eyes were never looking at a cat but looking past them. They were distant. They were an Ice blue. Hence the name. His mother had grown ill, so he had that distance back again. However only because he was doing his part taking care of her. Of course he still made his way out of the warriors den on occasion to see the sunlight but it wasn't often. He was respected by abyss. Not many would take care of a sick warrior. USually that was the job of a medicine cat. However he felt it as personal buisness that it was his mother. Even his own father Batwing could not intervene.
"How is the prey running?" He looked to riptide. His weary eyes grim as he leaned down to take a trout. This would not be his it would be for Twilightrain. His ill mother."Im not out of the den much...as you can see..." He shook his head and yawned."Excuse me..." He usually wasn't so rude however for some reason he felt that way."How have you beenn I don't see you much./..."

riptide s t r u c kdead ! by hero
riptide wants to be deputy, and while thinking in the clan clearing is approached by distantice AND THATS WHAT YOU MISSED
Riptide looked up, blinking her eyes in a small bout of surprise. Lately, not many people talked to her. The air was still thick with her thoughts. Her murky eyes looked up and met Distantice's distinct ones.
She smiled sweetly as his innocent remarks and questions. Prey? Riptide enjoyed small talk to the extremities, she wondered just how long it would be, though, until he got bored of her. It's actually running pretty bountifully. she nudged a small water vole as if to prove her point, but it rolled off the heap at her touch and slid to the ground. She blushed. Oops. she murmured, and gently pushed it back into it's place. A dazed smile took the place of her warm one.
She looked at the prey Distantice had pulled from the stack. And then back at his face. She had heard about his mother, Twilightrain. And when she thought about it, she wished that there were more toms in the clan like Distantice. Ones that didn't see it as degrading to care for their mother.
Me? she answered a little dubiously. I have hopes and dreams... she sighed. I'm just sitting around waiting for them to come true, but I guess I should do something. Like you. The harsh blush resumed to its soft glow on her face. How are you? Your mother...?

He smiled. His blue eyes turned soft, and a small sparkle returned to them. It was only for a moment but that was all someone needed to make a day a good one when they knew it would be fairly dull and filled with pain until the sun rose again."That is good. That means there is prey for me to eat today..." Although it didn't show very much. He always ate the leftovers. His mom needed fresh plump prey to keep her strength up. His eyes fell on the Medicine cat den then back to Riptide.
"We all have hopes and dreams waiting to come true." It was a very true statement. Some cats wished for a large family. Some wished for a mate. Others wished for high ranks withen the clan. However that one dream was VERY hard to acheive."My mom is Ill. First it was just a cold something that would have gone away but it turned to Whitecough....then Greencough. My dream is that she gets better. Even Greencough most leaders can't survive...let alone a cat with just one life."

riptide s t r u c kdead ! by hero
riptide wants to be riverclan's deputy and is approached by distantice, who is caring for his sick mom. AND THATS WHAT YOU MISSED
Riptide's heart melted a little. And she nodded in agreement to his words. He was right, everyone did. And in the clan somewhere, a cat was more suited for the role than she was. What was she but an exuberant, young, and perhaps a little bit naive warrior? She pushed the hurt sob down her throat and decided then and there.
If she wasn't meant to be deputy she would do something at least useful with her life. Right now. She scanned Distantice's face. I'm terribly sorry. she murmured. Her eyes stung a bit with tears that had crept in without her knowing it. But they felt okay, because she knew that these ones weren't for her own self pity.
Distantice... she began softly. I know how much your mother means to you by the way you care for her. And if she spent so much time raising a kit right enough to care for her instead of just leaving her to the medicine cat. Well then... Don't you think she deserves to live? It was kind of a stupid question. Of course he, her son, thought she deserved to live. And... she paused before all the words just tumbled out of her mouth. I want to help you take care of her. I'll do anything. And I know you take care of her, instead of the medicine cat, I think its sweet. And I know that if you won't let a trained medicine cat care for her than why should you let me? But... I want to help you. And at the moment, I think thats more important than my... Dream. she took in a long breath and let it out. Her legs felt a little like jelly. And she was still winded.

His eyes bounced with amusement at the string of words that fell from the she-cats mouth."No need to be sorry...Its...part of life. You are born, you grow strong and loyal, you grow old and sick, you die with honor. Its things that happen things you can't control." He mewed. His blue eyes dull once more.
I want to help you take care of her. I'll do anything. And I know you take care of her, instead of the medicine cat, I think its sweet. And I know that if you won't let a trained medicine cat care for her than why should you let me? But... I want to help you. And at the moment, I think thats more important than my... Dream.
Distantice looked up. Riptide wanted to help him with his mother. He coughed and thought about it for a moment."Yes I do not want a medicine cat to look after the she-cat who raised me from birth to be the tom I am today. It's my job." He mewed. He smiled."Come on, I will introduce you to my mother..." He mewed."You are welcome to help me..."

riptides t r u c kdead ! by heroriptide wants to be deputy and is approached by Distantice, a tom who is taking care of his sick mother. Riptide decides to put away her hopes and dreams for a while, and help with something that doesn't help herself. She asks to help him care for his mother. And he allows her to meet her. AND THATS WHAT YOU MISSED
Riptide swallowed. All this pent-up energy rocked back and forth inside of her. Her stomach twisted and jolted. And she let out a weak, but anticipating smile. He had allowed her to meet his mother!
Thanks. she breathed. Her milky eyes grew a little wider, their tea green-gray color flickered in the dappled Riverclan light. Like sun through water. Her face burned a little bit. But she was more excited than she had ever been.
But then... His mother had Greencough. One of the most deadly diseases known to cat. What would Twilightrain be like? How strong and in her right mind would she be? Questions came in at a raging torment. She finally cleared her mind enough to continue following Distantice and to ask, Your mother... How is she?

DISTANTICE He padded over to the medicine cats den. He mewed a few words and saw Spiritsong step aside with her apprentice. He gave a breif nod and entered. His mother was in the depths of the den and could not hear anything at such a far distance."She hasn't lost her mind if that is what you are asking....." He mewed. His tone wasn't bitter, but solemn since he had entered. It reeked of death in the Medicine cats den. He knew it wouldn't be long now."Theres an odd smell. She doesn't smell like she used to. You can scent the sickness. The death. The only reason why I am informing you is because I am used to this odd smell. You may not be." He mewed. He pushed his way through to the end of the den. A piece of prey clamped in his jaws."Mother, I brought this to you....." He paused."This is Riptide. She offered to help me...make you better....I accepted her offer...."
TWILIGHTRAIN The calico she-cat looked up. A nice sized vole wasa dropped at her paws. Her breathing was sharp and unsteady. Yellow sticky goo crusted around her eyes almost keeping them shut. She took the vole but nit picked. She had a pile of uneaten prey. Only small bites were taken out of each piece."How kind..."Her voice was low and shakey. Not healthy."Distantice.....You have.....an apprentice to take care of...." She mewed. It turned out her eyes were shut. She couldn't see."Riptide....nice to meet you..." She tried to sound kind but how could you when you knew you could die any day."You are both risking catching what I have...I don't want my son joining me in Starclan.."She emphasized the fact she knew she was going to die. It was enevitable. It was going to happen soon.

riptide s t r u c kdead ! by hero
riptide wants to be riverclan's deputy. She is approached by Distantice, a tom who is caring for his sick mother. She decides to put down her dream for a while and help with something that makes an impact. he accepts her help and takes her to meet his mother, Twilightrain who is terrible shape. AND THATS WHAT YOU MISSED
I understand. she murmured. She approached the medicine den a little warily. Usually it meant that something wasn't right in the clan. She made a note to herself to get over this and come visit here more often.
As she passed the medicine cat and apprentice she gave a quick smile and ducked in after Distantice. She took in the scent and managed not to gag. It smelled like a crow's nest. Her eyes watered a bit. She padded deeper into the den. Tangy herbs were mixed the scent of death, which make her stomach flop over and play dead. She looked at the wheezing form at the end of the den and then looked at Distantice's face.
It nearly broke her heart. What had she been thinking? Throwing herself into this position again? The expression so much like Eaglefin's. She swallowed her pain. But the tears trickled down her cheeks resolutely. Oh, hello. It's really great to meet you too. she said softly. She blushed a little, though she wasn't exactly sure why she had.
Her eyes traveled to Distantice. His mother obviously loved him, even in her state of... She remembered when Eaglefin had stumbled into camp, eyes blood-shot and cheeks sticky with tears. Cats who hadn't known Eaglefin before he left jumped to offense. In her own grief-stricken state she had rushed to his side.
Eaglefin! Eaglefin! Her eyes were wet with tears. What's wrong? What happened? A small female cat appeared over the ridge. Her own eyes looked a bit tired, and she was winded. She came down to meet Eaglefin. The clan stared at the three of them. Gone, Rip. Really gone. Both of them. Forever! His voice was still deep, but it was scratchy. Oh no. Riptide breathed. Her eyes shivered with tears. Oh, Eaglefin. I'm so sorry. Cats started to drift away, no longer interested. Riptide finally calmed her brother down a little bit and took notice to the apprentice. Who is she? she murmured Eaglefin's way. She is Ospreypaw. The small cat retorted, but the energy wasn't in there. I'm Eaglefin's sister. Who are you? Eaglefin's sister? Riptide stood straighter. Eaglefin's sister? I believe you have mistaken yourself for me. Who are your parents, child? Ospreypaw looked up, her tea green eyes matched Riptide's exactly and made the warrior take a step back. My father is Stonewater. she said with finality.
Riptide blinked a little and took in a sharp breath, filling her body with the toxic scents of the den. What was she supposed to say now? He won't be joining you? No. Twilightrain, no one will be joining Starclan today.

TWILIGHTRAIN She looked up, her eyes dull and soft. She wished no one would be joining Starclan tonight. She closed her eyes and sighed."My son won't be joining starclan....I feel...as if....I will be." Her tone was not filled with worry. THere was a hint of a calm soothing feeling. She would soon be relieved of all this pain."I..." She paused. Her breathing began to slow."I love you....Distantice... You were always my favorite." She touched noses with her son before her breathing stopped and her body went limp. Distantice Distantice stuttered a few things before resonding with the 'I love you to'. He looked to Riptide and nodded. He nosed his mothers flank and started to head through the lichen."I guess you wont have to help me after all..." He walked out waiting patiently for the she-cat to follow. He stood tall and gave the nod to his siblings and that was all it took and they knew what had happened. Twilightrain had joined starclan.

A small tear slipped down her cheek. Gone? Like that? That wasn't even fair was it? Not for Twilightrain, and not for Distantice and his family. And lastly, though she felt a little ashamed to think it. Her. She wanted to do something to keep herself apart from her own selfish dreams. It would have been so perfect. She swallowed and slipped out after him.
I'm so sorry. I really am. Your mother... She was amazing even though I just met her. She also felt a little guilty that Distantice's siblings hadn't been there but she had. Was nothing in this world fair? She tried to straighten out her feelings but she was just to confused.
No, I suppose you won't need me help. I'm... she need to stop apologizing. She just sounded silly now. She gulped. Well... I... If you... she didn't know how to say what she meant. If you need someone to err... Talk to. Or hunt with. I'm just... Uh, well. Here. she gave a sad smile.
