Sandheart awoke in the morning, his plan becoming oh so real today. As he woke he saw the sun barely dancing through the trees which meant that Rosie would be taking Clawkit out like she said she would. He had been good to spray around the beach where the foxes had been. In all this he had been the one to lead the foxes here and been good with covering up his scent. It was perfect and no one could lie, at least if they knew, that he was on his way.
He made his way from the den and out to where Rosie usually sat when she was waiting for Clawkit to stop bragging. It made him happy to see her like this. Everything about her death made him happy. As she sat there in her solitude he grinned and approached her, "Where are you going to take Clawkit today?" His voice was kind and loving but his heart was filled with evil and hate.
She wasn't that surprised to see Clawkit waking her up before the sun was barely in the sky. All she could do was to wait and see how long it took for her young daughter to brag and be done so that they could get on with the day. Now the bragging had turned to being an apprentice so it might take a bit longer.
Her ears pricked when she saw the younger tom approach her. It hadn't been long ago when he had started to warm up to her and showing in every way and sign that he had changed. She liked it that he had changed for the better and was ready to take on the new friendship. More than that, he had become very good friends with Liftedstar. He had truly changed. Her voice was soft and sweet, not its usual striking snappy self as she spoke, "I was planning on taking her to the great oak since the beach is ravaging with foxes."
He smiled and shook his head slightly, "I heard they moved upward, toward the great oak. The beach is the safest place by now," he slowly spoke, "You would just have to be careful on getting there."
As Rosie spoke she saw a small cream-colored cat coming her way. She turned to leave and looked over her shoulder once at the sandy-colored tom, "I will do that," she meowed as she left, "Goodbye Sandheart."
Clawkit was excited, ready to show her stuff before the ceremony today. She knew that she would become an apprentice today, all she wondered now was if the other kits would as well. When she raced out to her mother she saw Sandheart, the big, strong, loyal tom that did everything for her. He was so helpful and it made her want to be like him. She followed her mother out and starred at Sandheart for a last time and then raced onward.
He smiled as she left, "Goodbye Rosie," he then whispered where no one could hear him, "Forever."

Liftedstar had been walking now for a little while and had been impressed with what Sandheart had said to him. He recalled his words so perfectly, "All Clans are equal but forced a part by our differences." As he walked he smiled a bit at the young tom, "You are right Sandheart and-" he stopped as he spotted the scent of Rosie and Clawkit heading toward the beach, "Do you smell that?"
Sandheart almost grinned with joy as he spoke but he kept his face serious, "Yes," he meowed with his eyes wide, "I do." In his mind he already knew what was about to happen. The chase, the fatal rescue that had come too late, and his leader's death. It was amazing, really, how close his leader was to that she-cat from the start but he couldn't think of that right now. At once he looked wide-eyed and worried, "It smells as if they are heading toward the beach," he meowed, knowing that what he said was obvious, "The foxes are down there!"
He nodded, worried as ever for his secret mate and kit, they could die and it would be his fault! That was at least what he thought and it was hard not to think so. He was racing before he knew it, knowing that his faithful companion would do so as well. His eyes turned to look at the younger tom, brave and strong. A true warrior.
They ran until their pads might bleed (mostly from how hard they were running). His heart was pounding even more as he burst through the undergrowth and bushes just to hear the horrific squeal of Clawkit.
Her heart was pounding and her teeth were glistening as she spoke, "Clawkit, stay back!" She could smell the foxes and knew there was no point in escape now, they were too close and she couldn't move.
It was hard to fight these two foxes but the desperate mewls from her daughter kept her going. She had only targeted one fox, knowing that targeting both would take up too much of her energy in too little of time. Almost to the brink of giving up she heard Clawkit's horrified squeal as she fell to the ground, "Ru-"
All she could see and hear was the pounding of paws around her, only one set though. She knew that scent anywhere, Liftedstar! He must have come to save her. What else did she smell on the prowl? Sandheart! He had lied to her and now he was here! "Lift-" She tried her best to warn him, "He.....will.......ki-ki-" The words would not come from her gasps now.
He fought with the fury of TigerClan, the strength of LionClan, and the swiftness of LeapordClan. To see his fallen love and his frightened child was enough to lead him onward. One wounded fox had been chased off as he came, making this battle much easier but not quite easy. The only thing he couldn't put his finger on was where was Sandheart? His loyal warrior would always jump into a fight with him anytime. Why was he not here now? He knew he couldn't do this alone and his strength was withering, "Sand-" He could not finish and would not finish. It was over, the fox had got him so why didn't it just kill him? What was it tense for?
Sandheart grinned as he watched eagerly, hiding in a particularly guarded spot. He knew what was happening, the weak would die. His leader's choking voice alerted him to his mission. Finish the plan. He jumped in, his yowl echoing the forest, "Die!"
His teeth dug into the fox's shoulder with a happy intent to it. The fox had already been beat down greatly so his coming was a little bit too good. When the fox dropped his leader he really dug in, clawing at its eyes and tearing into its throat. As the fox ran away he grinned and then looked down at his fallen leader, dying and in pain. He stared, narrow-eyed and in an odd state of mind at his leader. As his leader tried to choke his name he leaned down and grinned that only his leader would see. With a small glint in his eyes he started, "I did not save you Liftedstar," he hissed into Liftedstar's ear to where only he could hear.
The pain of betraying him wasn't there and it never was going to hurt. He started to pad away and then heard small voices of the two together.
Rosie was choking her blood up as she tried to speak, "W...wha...what about our daughter Li....Lifted....star? What will h....a....a....ppen to her?" Her amber eyes were filled with pain as she looked into his.
Liftedstar could not help but feel more than betrayed but lost in the words of the tom. He had not saved him. His bright blue eyes starred back into hers, knowing her worry now and wanting everything to help it leave, "Do not worry my love," he started happily at her, "Clawkit will be fine."
As he said this he fell into a deep sleep, never to awake again. The only lingering words on his lips were,"I love you."
Rosie felt a little relieved but she could not feel that her daughter was safe until she was curled up beside her. A slight nod and she smiled just to close her eyes. She heard his words and spoke, "I love you too." The sleep that came was for as long as she would want.
Sandheart flicked his ears, the truth sounded so off on his ears. His leader was now dead and so was his mate? The only thing he questioned was the mate thing but it made sense. His leader had been so close to these cats, he did treat this kit like his daughter. It almost sickened him but he shrugged his shoulders, it was time to go on with the rest of his plan.
He padded toward the small she-cat that was huddled up in the corner of the brambles. His eyes glittered as he stopped before her.
Clawkit was shaking now, her mother was dead! To make things worse her unknown father was dead too! She had no way of not crying. Today was her day to become an apprentice and her mother would not be there. It was so odd for her to feel this but she did, a complete and utter silence of nausea. As Sandheart appeared before her she ran to him and nuzzled her small little nose up against his leg, "Is everything going to be ok?"
Sandheart almost felt disgusted by her but he just kept his worried eyes at foot. He came down and smiled slightly at her, "Yes," he started with a lick to her forehead, "Clawkit, everything will be ok."
With a swift move of his mouth he picked her up by the scruff of the neck to take her back to camp. He had other plans for her.
Her amber eyes slowly closed halfway through the trip, halfway out of grief and halfway out of the smoothness of Sandheart's steps. She was growing fond of this tom but she knew she also loved a forbidden cat, Redpaw; and that Sandheart loved Taintedheart. Now she could show Redpaw that she was strong enough with her father watching over her and helping her in every way. As she closed to eyes to sleep she let rumble from her mouth, "Goodnight," she meowed slowly, "Sandstar."
His ears flicked a bit, it did surprise him that this she-cat would call him such a thing. All at the same time it made him feel good that she would honor him in such a way already. As she fell asleep he smiled, "Goodnight Clawbelly."

"She is with Suncloud."
"Son, you must come with us."
"What about them?"
"They will be fine, there will be another generation that comes out of yours."
"Come now son."
