xx Rainpaw// . . . or what I need? Carefully and slowly pacing the clearing, Rainpaw despaired to herself. Is this really worth my time? She was waiting for her mentor, Poisonpetal to show up, so they could do their training session. I mean it isn't like I'm going to do it right anyways, I'm just a failure. She flicked her tail in minor annoyance and boredom, then paused sniffing the air. she heaved a sigh and resumed pacing, more thoughts going through her head. I'm hopeless, no wonder they put me with Poisonpetal . It doesn't matter X X X She licked her paw, wondering if Poisonpetal would ever show up. Rainpaw resolved if she didn't, that she would take the opportunity to find some place alone. But her dark fantasies were interrupted by the sound of paw steps.

Poisonpetal slowly padded through the pine forest, pondering silently, wondering why she had been given an apprentice and why it was Rainpaw. Maybe the clan thought she was as useless as a blind cat, no that was wrong. She had heard of Phantomspirit of Riverclan. She was blind, yet she was a well respected warrior. Maybe they expected her to kill Rainpaw, live up to her reputation as a murderous cat, find a way to kick her out of the clan.
She slowed as she approached Rainpaw, her musings falling silent in her head. "Where would you like to begin your training?"

xx Rainpaw//
No one really cares ``
Finally her mentor arrived, she stopped pacing, glancing towards Poisonpetal. " I care not where we start." Rainpaw voiced in response to her question. Her haunches plopping to the ground, she licked her paw, pretending to seem uninterested. Then looked into the cat's eyes. " It matters not to me." she said, flicking her ears. nor to anyone else. she reminded herself.

[ooc- dearie, she isn't the blind one, she was thinking of my other cat Phantomspirit who is in Riverclan.]
Poisonpetal gazed at her apprentice, her odd eyes taking in Rainpaw. "Fine then, we will start with hunting. Show me what you know of hunting and then I will help you from there." She was bored, her apprentice didn't seem the least bit interested in anything that had to do with training. Did she ever want to become a warrior?

xx Rainpaw// At this Rainpaw sniffed the air, swiveling her ears, trying to sense any pray. But she hadn't quite honed the skills needed to find prey. So instead of giving Poisonpetal the opportunity to criticize her, she took in the forest with her eyes. She thought she saw something moving on the ground nearby and started toward it. Before she could take two steps, whatever it was had already disappeared. She paused with a sigh, wondering if she would ever be able to do anything right. Rainpaw turned towards Poisonpetal and meowed " The only thing I have learned about hunting is how to scent and find prey, and I am not that adequate at it."

Poisonpetal narrowed her eyes in frustration, forgetting what it was like to be an apprentice. It all seemed so second nature to her now. "Search for the warm scents, prey with smell different then their environment. Once you have found prey drop low to the ground. With mice you want to be as light as you can, they'll feel you before the see or smell you. Give it a try and try not to wiggle you rear end, I've seen easy catches ruined by that."

xx Rainpaw// ' ' Its all just a ruse x x x
She listened intently to what Poisonpetal had to say, not wanting to miss any valuable information. Her eyes held a minor gleam of interest. After Poisonpetal had finished speaking Rainpaw thrust her nose up into the air, searching for prey scents. She tried to use her mentors advice sniffing for the warmer scent of prey, soon her delicate velvet nose had honed in on the area that some small body was residing in. She crouched low to the ground, continuing taking in the scent. Then narrowing her eyes, Rainpaw slowly moved forward on her paws, keeping her steps light. Carefully she crawled closer ensuring that the prey wouldn't take notice of her. Preparing to jump, she could see the whiskers of a mouse between the fallen leaves that littered the ground. Leaping off the ground, Rainpaw managed to catch the mouse in her jaws, with a well timed landing. She straightened up looking towards her mentor, but her eyes were not asking for praise, the sapphire irises seemed lifeless. [/blockquote]

Poisonpetal laughed quietly as Rainpaw began to sniff the air, it seemed as if she were trying to shove all of Shadowclan up her little nose. She watched intently as her apprentice made a nice catch. It was well times and neatly done. "That was good. Now tell me, how would you go about catching, lets say, a squirrel?"

xx Rainpaw "listen and scent it, then try to anticipate it's next move" Rainpaw suggested. "would that work?" she mewed, her nose twitching.

Poisonpetal nodded at Rainpaw's answer, at least she got a smart apprentice. "That and you have to be quick. You want to try to cut it off from the trees as much as possible."

xx Rainpaw// a simple matter of time x x x
"All right" mewed Rainpaw cheerily, kneading her paws into the soft ground. "I think I understand" her eyes gleamed with minor excitement and amusement. "You have to use different hunting techniques for different types of prey." A black tipped tail flicked, and grey eyes narrowed. Then softened glancing at Poisonpetal maybe I can actually do something right she thought. Her ear twitched flicking away a gnat. " To be a adequate hunter, you have to know your prey, and use that knowledge. " she concluded " Isn't that right?" Rainpaw questioned, cocking her head.

Poisonpetal's different colored eyes gleamed with pleasure. "That's exanctly right. Cats that only know how to hunt one thing will never survive. You also have to be able to adapt to your surroundings, that's just as important as knowing how to hunt."

x x Rainpaw// Soon to be no more ' '
"ok" meowed Rainpaw, nodding her head in agreement. Maybe having a mentor isn't such a bad thing. she mused. After all I am learning a lot, that a good thing right?. No one answered her silent question. "Should we practice fighting now?" she asked her mentor, stretching her back.

Poisonpetal nodded. "If that's what you want to do then yes, we will." She looked over Rainpaw with an appraising eye. "Your a relatively small cat, use speed and agility instead of pure strength." Without warning she jumped at her apprentice with claws sheathed.
